FINAL FRONT COVER, CONTENTS AND DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD

Here is my final front cover for my magazine 'UNDERGROUND.' I edited my picture to get rid of the white background properly so i could put it over my masthead. I chose this picture because i think that it gives the attitude that this type of indie magazine needs. The edited real life look, makes the picture look like it has been taken in a studio. This picture portrays the teenagers as 'rock chicks' giving it a lot of attitude. I did this because all music magazines seem to do it because theie magazines are well heard of. I also decided to make the masthead bigger to portray the name of my magazine and to 'sell it big' within the music magazine competition, showing the name of my magazine.
I have put all the main headlines down the right hand side, showing originality to my magazine because normally magazine headlines are on the rihght hand side. I have stuck to the main colours of red, white and black, throughout the front cover. This is because if i had a range of colours it could have made my magazine look a bit too much. So i decided to stick to what NME do, which is staying with three or four basic colours - which are used throughout the magazine. I decided to have the main headlines in red and then the 'info' underneath in smaller writing in black. I did this so the red headlines will stand out more and then the reader can read below at the bit of extra infomation or a snippet of what its about. Where the band name is i decided to put a white box behind it to make it stand out from the rest of the front cover. I then decided to put a list of three below this 'rock, glamour, boys.' I have also put a banner across the bottom 'free posters' drawing the reader in to buy the magazine. The barcode is on the side of the magazine, which is essential for any magazine.

This is my final contents page for UNDERGROUND magazine. As you can see, i have kept the main colours of red, white and black: matching to my front cover and will be matching to my double page spread. The title of the contents 'WHATS UP?' shows that i have thought about what type of magazine i am going for: and the title whats up portrays this, giving it a sense of attitude. I have also put the date and month of the monthly issue underneath in much smaller writing. The three pictures i have used are inside a polaroid picture frame, making the pictures original and making them stand out. Because this magazine is all about music i have decided to put a band index on the contents page showing the infomation about each band on what page. This long list would draw in the reader showing the reader that this magazine has a lot to offer. The middle column shows what mainly the magazine has: and in this case its Album reviews, Live reviews, Features and prizes that you can win. With 'WIN WIN WIN' being a triple. I have also put the editors note along the bottom because i think that this is important.

FRONT COVER LAST CHANGES

I think the magazine looks good apart from 'The Pretty Suicides' writing so i am going to take the white background from the title.

EDITED IMAGES FOR THE MAIN IMAGE FOR MY FRONT COVER

FIRST IMAGE TO BE A POTENTIAL MAIN IMAGE.

The checks on this picture would be invisible, i decided to cut out my models because i didnt want the background to be in my main image. I did this by using the 'erase' tool in PAINT.NET. I then used the 'feather' tool to make sure that my main image looked precise and neat: so it looked like it would actually be a big brand music magaizine.

I then played along with the effects to change my picture.

I was not happy with this picture because it was too bright. I had put the brightness tool up too high. I was not pleased with this because 'The Pretty Suicides' are supposed to be a 'punk, indie, teenage' band, portraying a 'rock chick, 'we dont care?' look. Which the brightness did not go well with this, it needed to be much darker in brighness, matching the 'house style' of my magazine and portraying my band as not a 'fun, loving, happy' band, but a 'sheek, out there, mysterious tennagers' that are just doing there thing.

I then played with the effects some more and came out with an image in which i was happy with.

Here is the image which i was happy with for a potential main image for UNDERGROUND magazine. I was happy with this picture because the brightness and contrasting tools that i have used are just right. They give off an impression on a 'indie, rock' band. The brightness isn't too bright which is what i wanted, their eye make-up is still dark and you can still see their faces perfectly well.

SECOND IMAGE TO BE A POTENTIAL MAIN IMAGE.

Here is the second image which i cut out on PANIT.NET and also feathered to give it a finishing touch.
I then played with the effects and I turned the brightness down to give a 'darker' look to the image. Giving it a cutting edge and original authenticity to it. Like the picture above it gives off the image that i want to portray to my audience.

QUESTIONNAIRE FOR MY FRONT COVER AND CONTENTS

EDITING PICTURES FOR MY MAGAZINE

Here is the main image which I edited on paint.net. I used effects to make the picture have a 'dark look.' Which i wanted my band to portray. I wanted my front model to be much brighter in contrast to the model in the background, because (the girl at the front, Francesca) is in the foreground. I wanted my picture to look like a proper studio picture, and i think that i have achieved this.
However, when i do my proper cover I am going to play around with the effects to make them perfect!

INFLUENCE FOR MY MAGAZINE - NME MAGAZINE

This is a contents page from NME magazine, and this is what i am going to mainly base my magazine contents on. Using a minimum amount of pictures and portraying all the information that i need to on the contents, just like NME magazine has done here. This contents page has also kept the font type small, loading as much information on as possible. This is what music (NME) magazines tend to do, this is the style in which they tend to use. The heading is at the top of the page illustrating automatically to the reader that this is the contents page of NME magazine. NME magazine really has influenced my magazine by all the conventions that are used and i have tried to use these in my magazine. Just like this magazine has an audience of indie teenagers, so is my magazine therefore i will use the conventions from this contents page and put them into my ver own contents page; which i have already done, however i think i could be even more flexible with what i put on my magazine and i could add a few more. To make my magazine convential to that house style and genre.

RESEARCH INTO MAGAZINES

This NME magazine is what i would like my final magazine to look like. Keeping the 'attitude' look and sticking to the main colours of red, white and black. Like this magazine i wanted to have one main image to portray this one band. This image is striking, just like i wanted my image to be. Beth Ditto portrays this well. Just like i wanted my actors too. From looking at this magazine cover i have realised that i need to put a lot more infomation on my front cover to draw the reader into the magazine, by adding quotes from artists eg. noel has said 'sorry i was wrong about the klaxons' this draws the reader in and this is what i want to happen with my magazine. Also from looking at the magazine i can tell that rhetorical questions do work, yet again drawing the reader in. This magazine has also used pugs and puffs to show what the magazine has to offer, they did this still keeping to the house style, which is what i am also going to do with my magazine.
